Rockin’ the Reward Mine
With Gabe’s is-it-sprained-or-is-it-broken-toe, and the skin on my middle fingertip down to its last layer, we took a day off from climbing. Gabe found some information about a old abandonded mine about 40 miles south of Bishop. We headed out there after lunch to take a look around.
I have a camera bag, with two DSLRs, and mabye six, seven lens. And what I take with me? Just the 5D and a 35mm prime. I’m just really simple like that. I thought it’d be fitting to run the pictures thru with a sepia effect as a shout out to the old skool days!

Amazing pixes!
I hope I am not gonna ask a stupid question… at the mine, were there any caves that you had a chance to explore?
What kind of mining by the way? Gold, silver, etc?
I forgot to include the link to the mine. Its the Reward Mine.

I believe it was used to mine for gold, silver and lead, I read about that on a different site when looking around.
Love the sepia effect to an already aging mine. If you haven’t done so already, you’d love Bodie, pronounced with a long O. It’s a photographer’s dream.
There is also an old silver mining town near there as well– when the mine shut down, the miners and their families left town by the droves, even leaving dinner on the table. Can’t rightly remember the name of the town, but it had quirky streets and buildings. Both are fascinating places of preserved old mining history in Calif.
