I started off my trip by heading towards Deadwood, South Dakota. People know I’m a huge fan of the TV series that aired on HBO for three years. I figured I’d stop in and check out the town. I knew it’d been turned into a tourist trap with stores and casinos, but I hoped I could maybe find a bit of the authentic historical character of Deadwood and just actually step foot in that small gulch deep inside the Black Hills.
Along the way on I-80, I spotted a massive bulls-head sculpture, and immediately threw for the exit to go and check it out. What I found was a quite impressive sculpture garden maintained by an local artist who spent his days out in the South Dakota plains banging out metal art day after day. Here are some pictures.

A sight that would become all too frequent during my trip.

Corn… 50% of the state is covered with this stuff.

Rest Area somewhere along the way.. how exciting…

Walking-Impaired… i like that!

This one has a Tim Burton type whimsy to it.

The big bulls-head I saw from the highway. It’s like 60-80 feet high.

you’re finally getting into heavy metal…
Cool! Neat!
Okay, so that place would be TOTALLY scary at night!
That place looks so fun - It’d be a good place for a fashion layout shoot!
Very colorful pictures!!!!
as kids would say nowadays, “it’s SICK!”
You seem to always find the most interesting things along the road. Or at least the most visually interesting. The place reminds of the Swetsville Zoo in Ft Collins, CO.
